Panathinaikos undergoes major squad overhaul and coaching change

Panathinaikos is undergoing a major squad overhaul and leadership change as it prepares for the new Stoiximan Super League season. Following a fourth-place finish in the previous playoffs, the club has appointed 38-year-old Jakob Nielsen as head coach on a contract lasting until 2028, succeeding Rafa Benitez.

The club has invested over 27 million euros in significant roster changes, involving 10 new signings and 12 departures. Key additions include Inaki Pena, Stefan de Vrij, Rick van Drongelen, Victor Kristiansen, Etienne Camara, Kings Kangwa, and Levi Garcia. The restructuring also includes high-profile departures, most notably Greek national team captain Tasos Bakasetas.

Due to European commitments against Hradec Kralove, Panathinaikos has requested a postponement of its league premiere against Kifisia. Their first Super League match will now take place during the second matchday, away against Levadiakos.
