Panda bassist Ricky Treviño admits to deliberate song plagiarism

Ricky Treviño, former bassist for the Mexican band Panda (also known as Pxndx), has admitted that the group deliberately plagiarized songs during their most successful era. In an interview with content creator Melo Montoya, Treviño confirmed that the band copied various elements, including lyrics and melodies, from other artists.

The admissions specifically target the period surrounding the 2005 album ‘Para ti con desprecio’, which faced heavy criticism for similarities to bands such as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Inspection 12, Green Day, and Blink-182. Treviño noted that the accusations were severe enough to make him consider leaving the project at the time.

According to Treviño, the band responded to the crisis by accelerating the release of their 2006 album, ‘Amantes Sunt Amentes’, in an attempt to shift the public conversation. This subsequent album was a commercial success and is often cited as a creative peak for the group. Treviño’s confession contradicts previous statements from other band members who had attributed musical similarities to subconscious influences or mere coincidence.
