Pandan Reservoir water activities suspended after crocodile sighting
Water activities at Pandan Reservoir have been suspended following the sighting of a crocodile on August 20. The national water agency, PUB, alerted the National Parks Board (NParks) to the presence of the reptile, which is believed to be an estuarine crocodile.
Estuarine crocodiles are the world’s largest crocodile species and can reach lengths of up to 7 meters. They are known to inhabit both brackish and freshwater environments and are often difficult to detect due to their ability to remain submerged and their natural camouflage.
In response to the sighting, PUB has instructed the Singapore Rowing Association and the Singapore Canoe Federation to halt all activities, including kayaking, canoeing, dragon boating, and rowing. Search and capture operations are currently being conducted by NParks and PUB personnel. Authorities have installed warning signs around the reservoir and advised the public to remain cautious, stay calm, and avoid approaching or provoking the animal if encountered.
