Pandansimo Beach tidal waves destroy three houses in Bantul

High tidal waves struck the Pandansimo Beach area in Poncosari, Srandakan, Bantul, on Tuesday morning, August 11, 2026. The waves, estimated to reach heights of three to four meters, significantly exceeded the normal range of one to two meters.

The surge resulted in the destruction of three residential houses, which were leveled by the force of the water, and flooded eight semi-permanent structures. One resident reported that the water reached the roof of their home, causing approximately half of the building to collapse and destroying various household electronics and furniture.

Sigit Prasetya, coordinator of Satlinmas Rescue Istimewa (SRI) Region IV DIY, noted that this phenomenon is part of a recurring annual cycle for the southern coast of Yogyakarta. Emergency responders confirmed that there were no fatalities during the incident and assisted residents in evacuating valuables.
