PANDI and Aceh discuss Jawi script for internet domains

The Indonesian Domain Name Administrator (PANDI) and the Aceh Provincial Government are discussing the potential use of Jawi script (Arab Melayu) for internet domain names. This initiative aims to integrate local scripts into the digital ecosystem through Internationalized Domain Names (IDN).

PANDI is currently studying the possibility of implementing Jawi script at the Top-Level Domain (TLD) level, potentially using names such as Indonesia, Indo, or Nusantara. The project seeks to ensure that Nusantara's linguistic heritage remains relevant in modern digital interactions rather than existing solely as historical documentation.

To ensure success, PANDI is evaluating technical requirements, linguistic accuracy, global internet policies, and digital ecosystem readiness. The Aceh Provincial Government, through the Department of Culture and Tourism, has expressed commitment to the plan and is working on the necessary regulatory frameworks to support the development.
