Pančevo councilor threatens criminal complaint against SNS leader

Tamara Maksić, a councilor for the Green-Left Front (ZLF) in the Pančevo Assembly, has announced her intention to file a criminal complaint against Ivan Tešić, the head of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) parliamentary group. Maksić alleges she has been subjected to misogynistic messages, harassment, and attempts to marginalize her voice within the assembly.

The controversy follows an incident where Tešić appeared at a local assembly session wearing a t-shirt featuring Maksić’s image and the derogatory phrase, ‘Najstariji zanat je uvek u modi’ (The oldest trade is always in fashion). Maksić further stated that the ruling majority has consistently blocked her proposals and threatened to deny her the right to speak for the remainder of her mandate.

ZLF leaders Biljana Đorđević and Radomir Lazović have expressed full support for Maksić, characterizing the incident as an attack on women in politics. Đorđević also noted that media access to local assembly sessions is restricted, making recordings from opposition councilors the primary way for the public to observe proceedings.
