Panevėžys road reconstruction destroyed by Rail Baltica project

Residents of the Panevėžys district are expressing outrage following the destruction of a newly reconstructed regional road. Local inhabitants report that a thick layer of asphalt, which had been recently laid, was removed or damaged within two days of completion.

According to local officials, the destruction of the asphalt section appears to be a result of the ongoing Rail Baltica railway project. The Vadoklės eldership noted that the road was part of a major reconstruction effort, but the new surface was lost due to the requirements of the railway works.

Justas Norbutas, head of the infrastructure group at Via Lietuva, explained that the company could not delay the repairs because the road condition was too poor. He noted that the Rail Baltica project is ongoing and lacks a definitive start date for all related works, necessitating immediate action on the road segment.
