Panevėžys unveils sculpture honoring notaries Jonas and Algirdas Moigis

A new sculptural composition has been unveiled near the Panevėžys Regional Museum to honor the memory of Lithuanian notaries Jonas and Algirdas Moigis. Created by sculptor Gediminas Piekuras, the artwork recreates a historical wooden building that served as Jonas Moigis’s notary office in the early 20th century.

Jonas Moigis (1867–1933) was a prominent lawyer, notary, and public figure who played a vital role in the founding of the Panevėžys museum by donating part of his personal collection. Following his death in 1933, his son Algirdas (1895–1959) took over the notary practice.

The sculpture features inscriptions in Lithuanian, English, and Braille to ensure accessibility. The initiative to commemorate the family was led by the Lithuanian Notaries Chamber, aiming to integrate the historical legacy of the Moigis family into the city's public space.
