Pangal Andrade Leads Rescue of Seven Horses Trapped by Snow in Chile's Cajón del Maipo

Kayaker and outdoor activist Pangal Andrade organized a rescue operation for seven horses stranded in the Lagunillas sector of the Cajón del Maipo, Chile. The animals had been isolated for more than 10 days by heavy snowfall, lacking food, water, and facing worsening visibility as a new weather front approached.

Andrade's team prioritized the oldest animals, including a 30‑year‑old mare named Panchita, which could not stand on its own. Using an improvised stretcher and a long rope, they guided the horses down the mountain to a safe area before the storm intensified. Andrade described the effort as “one of the most beautiful rescues we have done.”
