Pangea Municipality revokes 11 football pitch licenses after teen's death
The Municipality of Pangea has revoked the temporary operating licenses for 11 football pitches following the death of 16-year-old player Gianna ‘Ani’ Aslan. The teenager passed away after sustaining a severe head injury when he collided with a stadium wall while attempting to play the ball during a match in Thasos.
Deputy Mayor Christos Bosmpotis signed the decision to initiate re-inspections of the facilities. The audits will focus on pitch dimensions and safety margins to ensure compliance with Hellenic Football Federation (EPO) standards, specifically regarding distances from walls and other fixed structures.
The affected sites include pitches in Agios Andreas, Akrovouni, Amisiana, Elaiochori, Eleftheres, Kokkinochori, Melissa, Nea Peramo, Nikisia, Palaiochori, and the EPS Kavala pitch in Amisiana. Licenses will remain suspended until inspections are complete and any necessary adjustments are made. The decision has been communicated to the EPO, EPS Kavala, the Pangea Police Department, and the General Secretariat of Sports.
