Pangue Hydroelectric Plant Opens Gates to Manage Flood Risk in Chile's Biobío Region

Enel Generación announced that it will open the spillway gates at the Pangue Hydroelectric Plant, located about 87 km east of Los Ángeles in the Biobío Region of Chile. The maneuver is a preventive response to recent weather conditions that have caused a significant rise in the inflows feeding the reservoir.

The company said the gate opening is intended to reduce the potential impact of higher river flow on downstream communities along the Río Biobío. The operation has been coordinated in advance with basin authorities, the National Electric System manager and other reservoir operators. Residents and tourists in the river‑bank area were urged to stay away from the spillway and river channels for safety.
