Panos Kammenos warns of potential tension with Turkey

Former Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos has warned of a potential escalation in tensions between Greece and Turkey prior to upcoming elections. Kammenos suggested that Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan may attempt to create an artificial crisis to ensure political survival, predicting a “hot episode” through verbal escalation. He emphasized the need for readiness to face such developments.

Regarding domestic politics, Kammenos confirmed he maintains communication with former Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, noting that while they hold different political views, Tsipras possesses valuable governing experience. Kammenos also expressed a critical view of the PASOK party, stating it is politically finished and remains stuck in the political logic of the 1980s, suggesting it has no room for recovery.
