Giannis Parios receives support after social media criticism

Greek singer Giannis Parios has faced a wave of social media criticism following his recent concert at the Pattichio Municipal Amphitheatre in Larnaca, Cyprus. Viral clips of the performance led some internet users to criticize his vocal abilities and age, with some suggesting he should retire from live performances.

The comments have sparked a significant backlash from prominent figures in the Greek arts community. Musician Stelios Rokkos defended Parios, stating that art should not be judged by the narrow criteria of athletic performance, describing the singer as an ‘oceanic’ figure who has nothing left to prove. Actor Pantelis Kanarakis also voiced support, criticizing the ‘malice’ of those who demand that artists do not age or lose vocal range.

Other cultural figures, including actor George Konstantinou and presenter Roula Koromila, expressed sadness over the toxicity of the online comments. Parios himself responded to the criticism, stating that the comments are ‘indifferent’ to him and that he is only interested in the love of his audience, noting that an artist is not a public servant with a pension.
