Pantokratora Castle restoration approved in Preveza

The Greek Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Epirus Region and the Municipality of Preveza, has approved an architectural and structural restoration study for the Pantokratora Castle. Located at the entrance of the Ambracian Gulf, the castle is a significant example of fortification architecture in Epirus.

Constructed under Ali Pasha after 1810 and completed around 1818, the site has served various roles, including military use and a prison from 1940 to 1968. The monument includes a central pentagonal fort, a maritime perimeter, and the Church of the Holy Anargyroi, built in 1939.

Minister of Culture Lina Mendoni stated that the castle reflects successive historical periods. The approved study addresses urgent needs for stabilization, restoration, and vegetation management, specifically targeting damage caused by marine erosion and structural decay to ensure the monument's long-term stability.
