Food-storage pests such as pantry moths, flour beetles and grain weevils are increasingly reported in households during the summer months. The insects favor warm, humid conditions and can enter homes through open windows or doors, often arriving on purchased food items. Consumer agencies in Germany and France warn that contaminated products should be discarded and storage areas thoroughly cleaned.

Preventive measures include transferring dry goods like flour, nuts, chocolate and pasta into airtight glass, ceramic or plastic containers, keeping pantries dry and cool, regularly ventilating kitchens, sealing cracks in cabinets and walls, and avoiding the use of pantry paper that can provide hiding places. If an infestation is detected, the advice is to clean the cupboard with an all‑purpose or vinegar cleaner, dry it completely, and continue frequent inspections.
