PAOK FC hosts centenary conference on football and society

The international scientific conference ‘100 Years of PAOK: Football and Society’ is concluding at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Organized by PAOK FC to mark the club’s centenary, the event brings together academics, researchers, and sports professionals to examine the intersection of football with social, political, economic, and technological shifts.

Key themes of the conference include the club’s historical roots as a refugee institution, the formation of its identity, and the impact of digital transformation. Discussions have covered topics such as football analytics and the use of Big Data in sports, as well as the sociological aspects of fan culture, including its connection to local neighborhoods, digital communities on social media, and its role in social dynamics within school environments.

The final sessions focus on the relationship between athletes and society, the presence of the club in art and culture, and the evolution of the sport in a digital age.
