Paolo Borsellino: New book and play honor magistrate's legacy
The legacy of Italian magistrate Paolo Borsellino is being commemorated through a new book and a theatrical production.
Vincenzo Zurlo has released “Il nido di vipere” (The Nest of Vipers), a book that utilizes judicial records from the Caltanissetta Prosecutor's Office to reconstruct the final 57 days of Borsellino's life. The narrative, written in the first person to reflect the magistrate's perspective, details his experiences leading up to the Capaci and via D’Amelio massacres. The work highlights the internal challenges he faced, including institutional distrust and the withholding of information by colleagues, as well as his pursuit of justice against Cosa Nostra.
Additionally, the play “Paolo Borsellino – Il Custode del coraggio” (The Guardian of Courage) is scheduled to perform at the Teatro Portone in Senigallia on November 7. Performed by Cristiano Arsì, the monologue features the perspective of Borsellino's son, aiming to portray the magistrate as a human being—a father and citizen—rather than a static monument. The production explores his personal courage in the face of fear and the moral inheritance he left to Italy.
