Paolo Calcagno lectures on the history of the Republic of Genoa

Paolo Calcagno, a professor at the University of Genoa, delivered a lecture at the Castello Cinquecentesco regarding the resilience of the Republic of Genoa within modern Europe. The event, organized by the association Gente di Liguria, explored how the Genoese state maintained autonomy and interests amidst more powerful territorial and military nations.

The initiative serves as a precursor to the second edition of “Vie Antiche di Corte,” scheduled for September 12 and 13. This upcoming cultural program aims to highlight Ligurian history by connecting the legacy of the Republic of Genoa to the daily life and historical evolution of the Santa Margherita community, specifically focusing on the Pescino district and the 17th century.
