Paolo Canaparo appointed as new Prefect of Perugia

The Italian Council of Ministers has appointed 59-year-old Paolo Canaparo as the new Prefect of Perugia. Canaparo succeeds Francesco Zito in the role.

This appointment marks a return to the Umbrian capital for Canaparo, who previously worked at the Perugia Prefecture between 2004 and 2006. A graduate in Law from Sapienza University of Rome, Canaparo joined the Ministry of the Interior's civil administration in 1996.

His career includes significant roles within the Viminale, including directing the central division for the administration of the Fire Department, Public Rescue, and Civil Defense. Most recently, he led the mission structure for the prevention and combat of mafia infiltration in post-earthquake reconstruction efforts.
