Paolo Natale develops documentary ‘Our Raised Skin’ at ECAM

Director Paolo Natale is developing an experimental hybrid documentary and video essay titled ‘Our Raised Skin’ (“Nuestra Piel Levantada”). The project has been selected for the ninth edition of the Madrid Film School’s (ECAM) incubator program.

The film explores themes of self-perception, masculinity, and the transition from childhood to patriarchal societal expectations. Natale intends to examine the dynamics of power and violence directed at bodies within the family, specifically addressing the fear of touch and the emotional complexities surrounding male bodies.

While Natale describes the work as non-autobiographical, he draws on personal and familial experiences with compulsive eating disorders. The production team includes Manuela Gutiérrez Arrieta, Juan Carlos Ballesteros, Nabil Ejey, and Mubox Studio. Having already secured development funding from the Region of Murcia and the regional television station La 7, the team is currently seeking additional financing in Spain and Italy. Filming is projected to begin in the summer of 2027.
