Paolo Nicolato discusses Latvia's loss to Armenia and player debuts
Latvia's national football team head coach, Paolo Nicolato, commented on the team's 0-2 defeat against Armenia in their UEFA Nations League C group match in Yerevan. Nicolato noted that while the team attempted to remain compact and follow the tactical plan by sitting lower to control free zones, technical errors and poor passing options hindered their performance.
Nicolato highlighted the debuts of Deniss Cirkins and Markuss Strods. He specifically praised Cirkins' versatility and potential, jokingly suggesting the player is so high-quality he “could even play as a goalkeeper” in the team. The coach explained that the decision to use new players was driven by both a need to integrate future talent and a lack of alternatives due to injuries to players such as Renārs Varslavāns, Jānis Ikaunieks, and Kristaps Grabovskis.
