Paolo Zampolli removed as U.S. special envoy after State Department feud
Paolo Zampolli, the U.S. special envoy for global partnerships and a longtime associate of Donald Trump, has been removed from his position. His dismissal follows a report detailing a months-long email dispute with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau regarding diplomatic authority and the chain of command.
According to reports, Landau attempted to restrict Zampolli’s activities to cultural diplomacy, accusing him of engaging in unauthorized commercial and economic matters. The email exchanges included personal attacks and accusations of leaking information to the media. Zampolli, who is noted for having introduced Donald Trump to Melania Trump in 1998, stated he was not surprised by the decision.
In a statement, Zampolli expressed gratitude to the administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and noted that his original one-year mandate had already been extended by six months.
