Papageorgiou Hospital performs first leadless dual-chamber pacemaker implantation in Northern Greece
Papageorgiou Hospital in Thessaloniki has performed the first leadless dual-chamber pacemaker (Leadless DR PPM) implantation in Northern Greece. The procedure was conducted on a patient with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis who presented with symptomatic sinus node dysfunction and prolonged cardiac pauses.
The AVEIR DR system utilizes two microscopic independent devices placed in the right atrium and right ventricle. These devices communicate via specialized technology to maintain atrioventricular synchrony without the need for conventional endocardial leads. This technology is particularly beneficial for patients with contraindications for upper limb venous access or those with previous lead-related infections. The system is also MRI-compatible and can be upgraded to meet future pacing needs. The medical team of electrophysiologists collaborated with specialists from Italy to complete the procedure.
