Papeete civil servants protest for pay and working conditions

Approximately 200 civil servants gathered in Papeete on Tuesday, September 29, to participate in a strike called by several major unions, including CGT, FO, CFDT, and UNSA. The mobilization aligns with national actions in France, with protesters demanding a revaluation of the index point, its indexation to inflation, and the restoration of individual purchasing power guarantees.

In French Polynesia, local unions also addressed territory-specific concerns. Delegations met with the High Commissioner to discuss the indexation of state employees' remuneration and local working conditions. Specifically, education representatives highlighted the need for better local oversight regarding hygiene and safety, noting a lack of clear jurisdiction between local and state authorities when handling issues such as harassment or workplace aggression.
