Paphos court detains monk accused of attempted murder
The Paphos District Court has ordered the detention of a 51-year-old monk until October 7, following allegations of attempted murder against a 53-year-old employee of the Holy Stavropigiagani Monastery of Saint Neophytos in Tala, Paphos.
The suspect faces additional charges, including stabbing and the illegal possession and transport of an offensive weapon. While the defense argued that the individual has lived in Cyprus for 25 years and has strong local ties, the court cited the severity of the offenses and a potential flight risk as reasons for continued detention.
The case is scheduled to be heard before the Paphos Assize Court on October 7.
