Paphos launches marine pollution prevention program

The Municipality of Paphos has launched a new organized program for the prevention, early detection, and response to marine pollution incidents. For a period of four months, a specialized contractor will conduct daily maritime patrols along the coastlines of the Paphos and Jerichopia municipalities.

These patrols will occur seven days a week during morning and afternoon shifts, covering both swimming zones and open sea areas. The initiative focuses on monitoring and immediately addressing various forms of pollution, including petroleum products, solid waste, sewage, and other pollutants. In the event of an incident, the contractor is equipped to perform containment and restoration actions using specialized anti-pollution equipment.

The contract is valued at €50,000 plus VAT. Funding is provided by the Cyprus Ports Authority (€40,000) and the Municipalities of Paphos and Jerichopia (€10,000). The program aims to protect the marine ecosystem, reduce response times to pollution, and maintain high environmental quality for residents and visitors.
