Paphos Mayor Faïdonas' Trial to be Held Behind Closed Doors

The Permanent Criminal Court of Paphos announced on 16 July that the public hearing in the case of Faïdonas Faïdonas, the incumbent mayor of Paphos, will be conducted behind closed doors. The mayor has denied all five charges brought against him, which include rape, indecent assault on a woman, indecent assault with another act, assault causing bodily injury, and the administration of a drug or other substance intended to incapacitate a person.

Prosecutor’s representative Irini Savva requested a closed‑door proceeding to protect the complainant, citing relevant legislation for victims of such crimes. Defense counsel Christos Pourgouridis initially considered filing an appeal but, after reviewing the request and case law, agreed that the hearing should proceed without public or media presence, noting that the matter may involve protected evidence. The court scheduled the trial for five consecutive days, from 27 July to 31 July, each day starting at 9:00 a.m.
