Paphos Mayor Faidon Faidonos Trial Delayed Until Sept. 10

The criminal trial of Faidon Faidonos, the mayor of Paphos, Cyprus, was postponed after the prosecution could not secure additional witnesses. The court set the next hearing for 10 September. The proceedings are being held behind closed doors at the Permanent Criminal Court in Paphos following a judicial order.

The mayor faces five serious charges, including rape, indecent assault on a woman, a related assault, an assault causing bodily injury, and the administration of a drug or other substance intended to incapacitate resistance. He has denied all accusations. The prosecution is represented by the Senior Attorney of the Republic, Mikela Pasardi, who continues to call witnesses, with the total number expected to be limited to around twenty.

The case remains ongoing, with potential further testimony from the complainant and other witnesses, and the court will determine the next steps after the September hearing.
