Paphos Municipality increases mosquito alert following West Nile virus case

The Municipality of Paphos has entered a state of increased alert regarding mosquito control following the detection of a West Nile virus case. Dr. Christos Christou, a health officer for the municipality, stated that the strategy focuses on two main pillars: prevention and protection.

Prevention efforts include organized door-to-door inspections conducted by trained health workers in cooperation with state health services. These teams provide residents with instructions to identify and eliminate potential breeding sites, with a particular emphasis on preventing stagnant water accumulation. Additionally, specialized teams are working to combat mosquito populations in nearby fields and open spaces near residential areas. The municipality also utilizes citizen reports and complaints to investigate and address potential breeding grounds.
