Papu Gomez reflects on doping ban and Atalanta departure

Argentine footballer Alejandro ‘Papu’ Gomez has opened up about the most difficult period of his career, specifically addressing a two-year doping suspension. Gomez explained that the ban resulted from his son using a cough syrup, an incident he claims caused his life to come to a complete standstill, preventing him from pursuing coaching or agent certifications.

Gomez also addressed his departure from the Italian club Atalanta. He expressed regret over not being able to play a final match or say goodbye to the fans in Bergamo. Despite the sudden nature of his exit, he noted that he has made peace with former coach Gian Piero Gasperini, whom he described as the best coach of his career. He expressed a desire to one day return to Bergamo to receive an ovation from the stadium.

Currently, Gomez is playing for Forte Virtus in the second division of the United Arab Emirates, a move motivated by a desire to continue playing on his own terms after his recent professional struggles.
