Papua development acceleration overseen by Eight Jakarta Agreements

The Executive Committee for the Acceleration of Papua Special Autonomy Development is overseeing the implementation of the ‘Eight Jakarta Agreements’ to synchronize programs across various ministries and agencies. These agreements resulted from a synchronization meeting held at the State Secretariat Office to align the planning and execution of Papua's development acceleration action plan.

Velix Vernando Wanggai, Chairman of the Executive Committee, emphasized the need for strong orchestration to ensure development interventions are interconnected and address the specific needs of the Papuan people. He advocated for a policy approach described as ‘Papua Policy that Feels like Papua’ (Kebijakan Papua yang Rasa Papua).

As a follow-up, the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) will meet with other government bodies to secure program and budget commitments based on the Papua Development Acceleration Action Plan for 2025-2029. Key issues under discussion include the formation of new autonomous regions, such as North Papua and Central West Papua, indigenous community involvement, youth employment, natural resource management, basic services in villages, and refugee handling.
