Papua New Guinea builds first specialized biosecurity PCR suite

Papua New Guinea is constructing its first specialized biosecurity testing facility, a Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) suite located in Port Moresby. The project is being supported by the Australian Government’s Economic and Social Infrastructure Program (ESIP).

Once operational, the facility will enhance the Papua New Guinea Biosecurity Authority’s capacity to identify and manage pests and diseases that threaten crops, livestock, trade, and the environment. The initiative represents a collaborative effort between Papua New Guinea and Australia to strengthen regional biosecurity systems.

Civil engineer Elijah Ambelye, serving as a Graduate Trainee and Project Coordinator, is assisting with construction monitoring and stakeholder engagement. The project involves specialized technical requirements, such as specific pipework designed for safe and reliable waste disposal.
