Papua New Guinea Governor Powes Parkop seeks Chinese investment for Port Moresby waterfront sites

Governor Powes Parkop of Papua New Guinea’s National Capital District met with R&F Properties Group co‑founder and chairman Zhang Li, offering two prime waterfront parcels in Port Moresby – the Paga Hill Special Economic Zone and the former Old Port, now called Portside Gardens. Parkop said the sites are priority locations for landmark commercial development and promised full government support, noting the visit marks the first involvement of a major Chinese private corporation after years of engagement with state‑owned firms. He said the NCD Commission has prepared a list of about ten investment‑ready projects, which will be forwarded to R&F through Papua New Guinea’s ambassador to China, Dr Thaddeus Kambanei. The governor also highlighted opportunities across sectors such as housing, tourism, agriculture and mining, and noted that Trade and Investment Minister Richard Maru met the delegation and that discussions with Prime Minister James Marape are expected.
