Papua New Guinea launches national ICT policy and AI EduNEX platform
Education Minister Francis Kikin Siune and Education Department Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra unveiled Papua New Guinea's Integrated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Policy for 2025‑2029 at the Port Moresby National School of Excellence. The policy provides a strategic framework for expanding ICT infrastructure, digital learning, equitable access and teacher capacity building across the national education system, with standards for equipment, governance and data protection.
Alongside the policy, the government launched the AI‑powered EduNEX Learning Management System, featuring the locally‑developed NEXA AI engine, digital classrooms and assessment tools. EduNEX is intended to reach students in remote and rural areas, with internet connectivity supplied through Starlink and DataCo, and mandatory firewall protection to safeguard students online. The minister emphasized that technology should support, not replace, teachers, saying, “Artificial intelligence should never replace the teacher… it should remove routine tasks so teachers can spend more time inspiring young minds.”
