Papua Province faces Rp691.6 bn budget waste warning

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) identified a potential waste of Rp691.6 billion in the 2025 budget planning of the Papua provincial government, affecting five priority sectors with education accounting for the largest share. KPK Director Maruli Tua presented the findings to provincial officials.

Papua’s regional parliament urged the provincial administration to treat the audit as a warning and to improve financial governance, data accuracy and oversight. DPR Papua member Willem Zaman Bonai emphasized the need for reliable beneficiary data, especially for indigenous Papuan children, and called on Governor Matius D. Fakhiri to strengthen fiscal management.
