Pará authorities seize 700 cubic meters of illegal timber

Authorities in Pará, Brazil, seized approximately 700 cubic meters of illegal timber during a routine patrol on the Rio Maiatuaru, near Vila Maiauatá in the municipality of Igarapé-Miri.

The shipment, consisting of logs, was being transported on two barges towed by the tugboat Netuno V. Upon inspection by the Baixo Tocantins Integrated Fluvial Base, the vessel's commander was unable to provide documentation proving the legal origin of the wood. The cargo was reportedly destined for the municipality of Moju.

The operation was coordinated by the State Secretariat for Public Security and Social Defense (Segup) through the Fluvial Security Group (GFlu), with support from the Environmental Policing Command and the Civil Police. The seized material will be handled through a deposit or donation term in Igarapé-Miri as legal and administrative proceedings continue.
