Pará authorities target energy contract fraud and electricity theft
Law enforcement and utility authorities in the state of Pará are conducting operations to combat energy-related crimes. The Civil Police of Pará launched the second phase of ‘Operação Lasgrael’, targeting a criminal association involved in fraudulent energy contract ownership transfers. This operation has resulted in six arrests and the execution of search and seizure warrants in Belém, Mosqueiro, and Ananindeua.
In a separate enforcement action, Equatorial Pará conducted inspections across the Belém Metropolitan Region to combat electricity theft. Three individuals were taken to the police station following the discovery of illegal connections and meter tampering. Inspections identified unauthorized direct connections to the electrical grid at several locations, including a minimarket and a butcher shop where service had previously been suspended. Authorities warned that such irregular connections pose significant risks of fire, equipment damage, and power interruptions for the community.
