Pará, Brazil hosts Simineral journalism award launch and Regatão cultural policy forum

On 4 August 2026, the Sindicato das Indústrias Minerais do Estado do Pará (Simineral) held a workshop in Canaã dos Carajás, Pará, to launch the 13th edition of the Simineral Communication Prize. Journalists Chagas Filho and Kauã Fhillipe represented Grupo Correio de Marabá, and Layse Santos, the prize’s organizer, highlighted the theme “Strategic Minerals: Pará’s role in the new global economy.” The event focused on artificial‑intelligence applications in journalism and encouraged reporting on mining, innovation, energy transition and sustainable development.

Separately, the Instituto Regatão Amazônia convened the “Diálogos Amazônicos: Cultura, Meio Ambiente e Democracia” forum on 6‑7 August 2026 in Alter do Chão, Pará. The free two‑day meeting gathered indigenous and community leaders, cultural practitioners, researchers and the public to discuss how public policies can strengthen Amazonian culture, protect the forest and deepen democratic practices. Sessions covered the National School Meals Program, the Festival da Catraia, and a mapping of cultural points in the Lower Amazon, concluding with a cine‑club screening.
