Pará State files lawsuit to contest electricity tariff hike

The Attorney General of the State of Pará (PGE) has filed a public civil action against the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) and Equatorial Pará to contest a proposed electricity tariff increase. The legal action seeks to ensure transparency in the calculation process and requests that the hike not be implemented until identified inconsistencies are clarified.

The proposed adjustment, which ANEEL is scheduled to deliberate on, suggests an average increase of 7.60%. Specifically, the proposal outlines a 7.40% increase for low-voltage consumers and 8.42% for high-voltage consumers. For residential users, the estimated impact is a 7.45% rise.

Legal representatives argue that the increase affects approximately 3.12 million consumer units in Pará, potentially competing with essential costs such as food, medicine, and transportation for low-income families. The discussion also involves the Use of Public Goods (UBP) mechanism, which could potentially mitigate the impact of the adjustments.
