Pará: Plant saucers can become mosquito breeding grounds

In the state of Pará, small volumes of clean water in plant saucers can become breeding grounds for the carapanã mosquito. Even a thin layer of water resulting from rain or watering can sustain the mosquito's life cycle, especially in shaded or humid areas where evaporation is slow.

Adult mosquitoes deposit eggs on moist surfaces or the water's surface, leading to larvae that appear within approximately one week depending on temperature and food availability. Waiting for the water to become dark or foul-smelling is often too late to prevent the cycle. To interrupt this process, regular inspections of saucers, gutters, and other containers are necessary.
