Pará police probe separate homicides, including possible serial killing in Belém

In Belém, the capital of Pará, two recent murders have raised concerns about a possible serial killer. On a Sunday, 52‑year‑old veterinarian Paulo Paiva was found dead in his Marambaia residence with signs of beating after meeting a man through an LGBTQ‑focused dating app. Two days later, 55‑year‑old professor Augusto César Siqueira was discovered dead in a vacation home in the same neighbourhood, having suffered severe head injuries. Police have opened investigations into both cases and noted the similarities, but officials have not confirmed that a single perpetrator is responsible.

In the town of Brasil Novo, also in Pará, 44‑year‑old Hélio Pereira da Costa was discovered dismembered, his body parts scattered across the city and placed inside a large suitcase. Surveillance footage helped identify two suspects, Josiel Silva Alves and Adrielson Moreira de Lima, who were arrested on suspicion of homicide, dismemberment and concealment of the corpse. The victims and suspects are currently in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
