Pará prosecutors suspended amid organized‑crime probe

The National Corregedoria of Brazil’s Ministry of Public Prosecutors ordered the opening of disciplinary proceedings against two prosecutors and a procurator of the Pará State Public Ministry (MPPA). All three were placed under a 120‑day preventive suspension while investigations by the MPPA’s specialized Organized Crime unit (Gaeco) continue. The allegations include involvement in a criminal organization, passive corruption, qualified administrative advocacy, money‑laundering, influence‑peddling and violations of functional duties. The Corregedoria stressed that the measure “does not represent an anticipation of judgment and guarantees the right to a contradictory defence” and is intended to preserve the integrity of the disciplinary process and the institution’s reputation. The cases await approval by the National Council of the Public Ministry, after which they will be assigned to a reporting counselor for final judgment.
