Para-athlete Dilip Gavit Misses Meeting with Maharashtra Leader Raj Thackeray in Nashik

Commonwealth Games gold medallist Dilip Gavit, who won the men's 100m T47 event, was invited to meet Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray during the leader's tour of Nashik. Gavit and his coach waited for nearly two hours, but the meeting did not materialise. Thackeray later issued a video apology, saying he was unaware of the athlete’s visit and promising to meet Gavit after returning from Delhi. The incident highlighted the athlete’s historic one‑two finish with fellow Indian para‑athlete Mohammed Basil Morssinganakath, who took silver in the same race.

The missed encounter drew public attention in Maharashtra, prompting the political leader to acknowledge the oversight and express regret over the missed opportunity to honour the para‑athlete’s achievement.
