Inmet issues yellow rain and temperature alerts for dozens of cities across Brazil's North and Northeast

The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a yellow alert for intense rainfall on Saturday for numerous municipalities in Brazil's North and Northeast regions. The alert covers cities in the states of Ceará, Paraíba, Piauí, Maranhão and Rio Grande do Norte, as well as Roraima, Pará, Amapá and Amazonas. Expected precipitation ranges from 20 – 30 mm per hour, potentially reaching 50 mm in a day.

In addition, Inmet released yellow alerts for a drop in temperature in the southeastern states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Paraná, with predicted falls of 3 – 5 °C and maximum temperatures in São Paulo not exceeding 17 °C. Similar temperature‑decline alerts were issued for Rondônia, Amazonas, Mato Grosso and Acre. São Paulo’s civil defence declared a state of attention for the low temperatures.

Separate alerts were also published for specific regions: a yellow rain alert for 134 municipalities in Paraíba (including João Pessoa) and another for 25 municipalities in Bahia, covering Salvador and surrounding areas. All alerts are classified as the lowest‑severity yellow level, indicating potential danger and urging residents to avoid sheltering under trees and to limit use of electronic devices during heavy rain.
