Paraíba fugitive arrested after 33 years for fatal accident
A 74-year-old man has been arrested after being a fugitive for 33 years following a fatal accident in Paraíba, Brazil. The arrest was carried out during a joint operation by the Paraíba Civil Police and the Pernambuco Military Police in Taquaritinga do Norte, Pernambuco.
The incident occurred on March 28, 1993, on the PB-426 highway. The man was driving a Volkswagen Beetle at high speed while intoxicated when he struck six people. The accident resulted in the deaths of a father, a mother, and two children aged 8 and 1. Two other children, aged 2 and 6, were seriously injured.
Authorities stated that the crime did not expire because the man had been convicted and failed to present himself to the justice system. He was charged with intentional homicide under the theory that he assumed the risk of the outcome. Following his arrest, he was taken to the Civil Police Station in Santa Cruz do Capibaribe for legal proceedings.
