Paraíba Governor proposes IPVA tax exemption for app drivers

Governor Lucas Ribeiro has submitted a bill to the Legislative Assembly of Paraíba that proposes an exemption from the Motor Vehicle Property Tax (IPVA) for professionals using digital platforms to transport passengers, goods, and merchandise.

If approved, the benefit is scheduled to take effect on January 1, 2027. The measure aims to reduce operational costs for gig economy workers and increase their disposable income. To qualify, vehicles must be actively used for platform-based services, and workers must provide proof of professional activity and link the vehicle to their profile. Specific regulatory criteria will be established following the law's passage. The proposal stipulates that the exemption will not allow for the restitution or compensation of IPVA amounts already paid.
