Paraíba handicrafts featured at international biennial in Portugal
Handicrafts from the Brazilian state of Paraíba are being featured at the International Biennial of Arts and Crafts in Castelo Branco, Portugal. The event, themed ‘The World Embroidered by Hand’, includes exhibitions, workshops, and lectures.
One of the key components of the participation is a presentation on the management of the Paraíba Handicraft Program (PAP), which focuses on income generation and supporting local artisans. The participation of the Paraíba delegation is being fully funded by the Castelo Branco City Council.
Activities include a live embroidery workshop by artisan Amanda Cosme and an exhibition showcasing renaissance lace, macramé, crochet, and traditional embroidery. The event also highlights the connection between João Pessoa and Castelo Branco, as both are recognized as UNESCO Creative Cities in the field of handicrafts and folk art.
