Paraíba prepares for 2026 elections with security plans and party shifts

Preparations for the 2026 elections in Paraíba, Brazil, are advancing through both political organization and security planning. The state's political landscape shows a mix of traditional parties and growing forces. Based on affiliation data from April 2026, the MDB leads with 41,587 members, followed by União Brasil, PSDB, and PT. However, legislative representation tells a different story; following the 2026 party window, Republicanos and PP hold the largest benches in the State Legislative Assembly with 10 and 9 deputies, respectively.

To ensure order during the elections, the Paraíba Military Police (PM) has developed a specific security plan presented to the Regional Electoral Court (TRE-PB). The operation, which begins on October 1, involves deploying specialized troops from the capital, João Pessoa, to the interior, starting with the Sertão region. Special security structures will be implemented in the municipalities of Bayeux, Itabaiana, and Piancó. While local magistrates had requested federal troops for these areas, the TRE-PB determined that state security forces would be sufficient.
