Paraíba resumes municipal legislative session as Janaína Andrade becomes first female MPF chief

The Câmara Municipal de João Pessoa officially resumed its legislative activities on Tuesday, July 4, after a recess that began on June 16 following the approval of the 2027 budget guidelines. The session, held in the new legislative building, marked the start of the second half of 2026, an election year, and will see councilors reviewing new proposals and continuing work on pending matters.

On Thursday, July 30, Janaína Andrade de Sousa was sworn in as the first woman to lead the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) in the state of Paraíba. She will head the office for the 2026‑2028 term, overseeing administrative functions and the institution’s work in anti‑corruption, public‑asset protection, human‑rights, environmental issues, and federal‑fund oversight.
