Brazil weather: Storms, heatwaves, and drought alerts

Brazil is experiencing diverse and extreme weather patterns across its various regions. In the South, a cold front and extratropical cyclone have recently passed, though the intensity of the cold is beginning to diminish. Some areas in Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul remain at risk for frost.

In contrast, much of the country is facing significant instability. Parts of the Center-West, Southeast, and South are under alert for storms, heavy rain, and potential hail. Specifically, Mato Grosso do Sul faces alerts for thunderstorms and high rainfall volumes. Meanwhile, a severe drought persists in several states, with the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issuing orange alerts for extremely low humidity (as low as 12%) across 11 states, including parts of the Northeast, Southeast, and Central-West.

In the North, particularly in Acre and Amazonas, temperatures remain high with localized chances of quick rain showers. In the Northeast, particularly in Bahia, temperatures are expected to rise significantly, with some areas potentially reaching 40°C. In Paraíba, multiple municipalities are under alerts for both low humidity and potential gale-force winds.
